When Sony released their new 2021 Bravia with various models and available during Q2 2021, we were left wondering if there was a TV that is affordable and suitable for the PS5. The hype of the Bravia XR TV lineup was so intense that they projected it as the coolest and most powerful TV that Sony ever came up with, in our opinion. In all seriousness, it is pretty cool and powerful. You may check out the Bravia XR TV at Sony Centre Vivacity Megamall, Kuching, Sarawak.
Let us not leave the other model in the shadow and shed some light on it. Meet Sony’s X85J with the capability to do 4K 120FPS just like the previous flagship X90H, and HDMI 2.1 port-ready the same with the current flagship, X90J. Hence, we recommend this model for those who want to play games at night and still be able to watch news, TV series, documentaries by day. Also, the TV comes in different sizes which are 85″, 75″, 65″ and 55″.

PICTURE QUALITY
On this model comes the existing 4K HDR processor X1, where it is responsible for giving out better picture performance than the TV without it. It can give out rich and smooth colours so that it looks more natural. Other than that, the Object-based HDR remaster helps provide greater depth, textures and more realistic pictures. Another thing to also note is that with 4K X-Reality PRO, images will be upscaled closer to true 4K quality for remarkable clarity. This applies to when you are watching content that is not in 4K resolution. And this new model comes with a Triluminos Pro that helps provide better colour accuracy especially when the content you’re watching lesser colours. The panel does support HDR10 as well as Dolby Vision, so your movie experience is a similar feeling to what you watch in cinemas. This TV has Motionflow™ XR 800 and is a feature where it reduces motion blur on scenes like streaming football or action movies with fast-moving subjects on screen.
SOUND QUALITY
The picture is one thing, but the sound is another that you need to also look out for. This X85J supports Dolby Atmos sound quality. Whatever streaming services you are watching from that has Dolby Atmos in it, this TV can output it well. The sound will be even better if you connect a Dolby Atmos soundbar to it. And Sony has lots of Dolby Atmos soundbar models to choose from. Of course, you are required to use an HDMI eARC/ARC to get the sound you desired, which is Atmos. Besides the TV being able to support Dolby Atmos, the built-in speakers are X-Balanced Speaker, a different kind of design that enhances audio quality compared to older models that do not come with the new design. The speaker unit achieves high sound quality and powerful sound pressure for a richer, deeper, more rewarding listening experience.
USER EXPERIENCE
All of Sony’s Bravia TVs this year is a Google TV system. It is an Android in disguise as they both have a Google Play store to download apps from. The Google TV system exist in X80J, X85J, X90J, A80J and A90J. The only Android TV for this year is X75. Technology is evolving, and so is Sony in their Bravia lineup this year. Google TV helps you find the entertainment you love with just a simple search. Even if you have finished watching a series of a certain genre, Google will suggest a series that is similar to what you watched before. Every Sony TV remote comes with a built-in microphone, making your searches much easier without having you type. Other than that, Sony still maintains Apple’s software with their TV (except X75), which are the Apple AirPlay 2 and Apple Homekit. This helps Apple users in ways that they want to use their features on the TV from their Apple devices.

Who is the TV for?
Well, we are indeed very lucky that this model exists because it helps give consumers lots of choices for the TV they want, especially with the new console’s compatibility. We are not saying other lower-spec models could not support the PlayStation 5, it is just that to fully utilise the console’s performance, we recommend a model starting with the X85J.
This TV is indeed suited for those who already own the PS5, or planning to own one since getting it is rather difficult in this current “chip shortage” time. The TV can output 120Hz in 4K gaming, which also depends on the game in optimising to the highest frame rate. HDMI 2.1 are available in 2 ports and one of which is eARC meant for home audio system connection. This TV is also one of the most affordable models equipped with a higher motion blur reduction (Motionflow™ XR 800), making a fast-moving object on the screen constantly sharp and clear without introducing blurriness.
Last but not least, you can use this TV as a PC monitor. We recommend it to people who already have a top-of-the-line graphics card like Nvidia’s RTX3090 & RTX3080, as well as AMD’s Radeon RX 6900 XT if you are planning to game on the TV in 4K resolution constantly with no hiccups.
